My interest is in how the sensations of perception attach to consciousness– how feeling, thought and physical sensation can act upon one another.

Seeing a color, shape or form, I'll draw it, then draw from drawings; in creating this distance, I shift the context and character of what I have observed. Altered associations lead to new responses.

Through composition and color, painting presents me with a way to exercise choice. As I make an image, I study it, and examine what happens. The sensations experienced in this process stir my attention to perception and thought, and to how they are conjoined.

I favor the simplest means, and treat their limits as a way to approach the limits of body, time and circumstance. In the contemplative pace of my work I can explore the question of how I want to live.
